Crowded streets not an issue in the upcoming Golden Week holidays: Travel Industry Council
It is unlikely that crowded streets and traffic congestion will be an issue in the upcoming Golden Week holidays, said the Travel Industry Council, as it estimates about 600,000 tourists will visit Hong Kong during the period.
Fanny Yeung Shuk-fan, the Travel Industry Council's executive director, estimates that 80 percent of the visitors coming to the city will be on self-guided tours during the holiday (Apr 29 to May 3).
She added that there is still some time needed for the tourism industry to fully recover since there is still a severe lack of manpower and a tight flight schedule.
Yeung said she will continue coordinating with the government and relevant departments to improve the reception capacity.
She noted that the situation where tourists congest the roads would greatly improve with the authorities cooperating with different restaurants to serve the tour groups and adopting a reservation system to divert tourists.
