Large crowd gathered outside the Tseung Kwan O office of Apple Daily to bid farewell to the newspaper as it came to the end after 26 year.
Over hundreds waited under the rain to show their support to the tabloid and its staffers. People waved flashlight from their phones outside the headquarter of the company.
Staff members within the building responded by waving flashlight as well. Some also post messages on the building's window, thanking the public for their support and love.
“Hang in there Hongkongers!” one of the slogan said.
Some citizens said they are waiting for the first batch of the final publication of Apple Daily and will rush to Mong Kok for the first glance as soon as the papers are delivered to hawkers.
A great number of reporters from local and foreign media were also spotted at the scene to record the last moments of the paper.
The street was packed as well for it was fully occupied by supporters' vehicles.
The web page of Apple Daily will also stop updating at midnight as its last publication came tomorrow.
The company originally expected to cease operations as soon as Friday, yet the decision to cease operations came much sooner from the board of directors today, due to safety of employees and manpower concerns.
