Credit card fraud victims in Hong Kong ‘may have to pay if serious negligence found’
Edward Leung says he has been assisting three victims who were told ‘serious negligence’ on their behalf invalidated their claims for reimbursement.
Victims of credit card fraud may be responsible for any unauthorised transactions deemed by banks as “serious negligence” even if the term is not clearly defined, a Hong Kong lawmaker has warned after one resident said he was asked to repay about HK$500,000 (US$64,100).
Lawmaker Edward Leung Hei, from the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, on Monday said he was assisting three victims of such crimes.
The first victim, who only gave her surname as Cheung, said she had three credit cards and her identity card stolen from her wallet.
