Respiratory expert Leung Chi-chiu warned of the second or third generation infection of bar clusters in Central, but noted that the Covid-19 pandemic becoming an endemic is a definite outcome.
Speaking on a radio program on Friday, Leung expected the daily infection caseload to continue to remain at low levels as the city eased the
Covid rules.
Yet, authorities still need to improve the curbs to prevent any rebound in infection figures and to minimize the hospitalization rate, he added.
On another note, Leung urged health authorities to speed up their work on contact tracing as he warned of the possible second or third generation infection of the bar outbreak clusters in Central.
According to Leung, the bars were flooded with large crowds and the operators didn't do a good enough job on the venting system. The infection risk became higher due to guests' activities including drinking and dancing which led to increasing viral exhales.
The Centre for Health Protection is lagged behind on tracking patients' whereabouts and it would be too late to identify a new cluster after a patient's infection was reported a week ago, Leung also said.
