Hong Kong’s health chief said Wednesday that statistics have shown that Covid-19 cases are on the rise lately, adding that authorities are confident and capable of handling the possible surge.
Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau told reporters this morning that although the SAR government has removed all
Covid restrictions, it does not mean it no longer attaches any importance to the pandemic.
He said the increase in
Covid cases could be small fluctuations in the city’s
Covid situation as summer nears.
He said the enhancement of prevention and treatment capacities of the local healthcare system, along with the city’s strong immunity barrier, has given confidence to authorities in handling the new
Covid wave.
Meanwhile, Lo noted that if no new variants affect Hong Kong, a winter outbreak will not undermine citizens’ health or the local healthcare system.
However, he called on people from high-risk groups to get their booster doses as advised and urged people who display respiratory symptoms to wear a surgical mask and seek medical advice promptly.
