A couple was arrested on Thursday for drug trafficking as police busted two warehouses in Yau Ma Tei and seized 12.8 kg of drugs valued at about HK$9.4 million. The man, under the guise of being a food deliveryman, was also arrested for using a fake driving license and having a stolen motorcycle.
Police raided two flats opposite each other at a building on Reclamation Street in Yau Ma Tei around 1 am on Thursday after obtaining a court warrant, where they seized 5.85 kg of heroin, 2.45 kg of cocaine, 3.61 kg of “ice” drug, 656 g of ketamine, 21 g of marijuana, and drug packaging tools.
Officers further found 34 g of heroin, 54 g of cocaine, and 140 g of “ice” drug from the motorcycle parked down the street by the man. The bike was also found to be stolen and had a license plate that belonged to another vehicle.
Police then arrested the 48-year-old man and the 49-year-old woman. They were reportedly jobless and a waitress; the man was also revealed to be a member of a triad society.
The man was also arrested for using false documents and car theft.
Police added the couple had been renting the two flats since March and believed the drugs were supplied to the market in West Kowloon.
Apart from the drugs, police also seized a deliveryman uniform and a takeaway thermal bag. They suspected the man would dress as a deliveryman and deliver the drugs kept in the thermal bag on the stolen motorcycle.
Police warned the public that drug trafficking is a serious offense and the maximum penalty carries a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.
