Cop among duo arrested for drugging, rape of mainlander and death of another in TST hotels
A 28-year-old man and an officer from the police’s Emergency Unit were arrested in connection to a case in which a man was found dead, and a mainlander was drugged and allegedly raped in two Tsim Sha Tsui hotels.
Sources said that the arrested cop is surnamed Luk and is posted to the Emergency Unit in Kowloon West.
The drama first unfolded as a 25-year-old man was found unconscious in a hotel on Chatham Road South around 1pm on Wednesday and was later pronounced dead by paramedics.
Police found that the deceased checked into the hotel room with the 28-year-old man the night before, who only stayed there for several hours and left. Police also suspected that the deceased’s phone was stolen, and the case was passed to the Yau Tsim district crime squad and then to Kowloon West regional crime squad.
Police continued their investigations and tracked the 28-year-old man to another hotel on Nathan Road, where he met police officer Luk and the mainland man, also on Wednesday.
Cops then arrived at the hotel and seized empty bottles containing gamma-hydroxybutyrate, or GHB, a chemical commonly known as the “date rape drug,” in the room where the trio had stayed. Police immediately reported the case to senior management after finding that one of them was a cop.
It was understood that the 28-year-old man asked a mainland man – whom he met on a dating app – to the Nathan Road hotel the same night after he left the Chatham Road hotel. He spiked the mainlander’s coke, had sex with him, and left. Then Luk entered the hotel room and also had sex with the mainlander.
As the mainlander regained consciousness, Luk explained that he was a friend of the 28-year-old man and was called by him to take care of the mainlander.
It was understood that the mainlander had told police he was drugged and sexually assaulted.
After in-depth investigations, police arrested the 28-year-old man on Thursday in connection to the death in the Chatham Road hotel and Luk for allegedly raping the mainlander. They were both arrested on suspicion of administering drugs to obtain or facilitate an unlawful sexual act.
The mainlander is now in stable condition after the drugs wore off.
As for the dead man found in the Chatham Road hotel, police will arrange for an autopsy to confirm the cause of his death and see if it is related to an overdose of the “date rape drug.”
