It was said that leaders of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions have agreed during a meeting on Thursday night on a motion to disband the group.

However, Joe Wong Nai-yuen, the president of the Confederation, would neither confirm nor deny that on Friday, only stating that they will hold a press conference on Sunday.

“We will meet on Sunday to discuss the matters reported by the media, and for now, there is nothing for me to add,” he said.

There are also reports suggesting that the Chief Executive of the Confederation, Mung Siu-tat, has already resigned.

Since June, at least 15 opposition groups or unions have disbanded or announced they would. They included the Civil Human Rights Front, the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, and the Professional Teachers’ Union.
