Community care teams in Southern District officially launched
The Community Services and Community Care Teams in the Southern District were officially launched on Sunday to pull together all sectors to participate in community building.
The care teams are one of the measures proposed by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu in his policy address to build a more caring and inclusive Hong Kong.
The 18 districts in Hong Kong would be delineated into sub-districts, based on which authorities will widely engage local organizations and groups to form Care Teams to organize community activities and promote government initiatives, such as visiting people in need, organizing vaccination programs, as well as coping with the aftermath of any possible disaster or emergencies.
Speaking at the pledging ceremony, Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki said the Care Teams have pulled together all sectors and district organizations to strengthen community support and build relationships with residents.
He added that the team also act as a bridge between the government and citizens.
Chan and the Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Alice Mak Mei-kuen, visited two elderly households living in Shek Pai Wan Estate in Aberdeen before the pledging ceremony. They distributed health and anti-deception messages to older adults, and an accompanying volunteer from the Care Team also provided a simple health check for the elderly.
It is understood that the government will trial the Care Team program for two years.
