Hong Kong’s long-awaited annual Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival just announced that its 2021 edition will be canceled - again, for the third year in a row, citing the city’s strict, ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
The festival’s organizer on Wednesday said the event scheduled for November will not take place as planned, partially because the authorities required attendees to be seated, with no food or drink allowed on site.
“Until recently, we were confident Clockenflap could be run in a way that would be safe and deliver a great festival experience,” the organizer said in a statement.
“Unfortunately, due to the recently tightened rules and regulations on running large scale outdoor events in Hong Kong, and the ongoing restrictions on international travel...it is impossible to deliver a true Clockenflap festival experience,” it added.
Those who bought tickets to Clockenflap 2021 will be offered refunds, or can use them for a future festival.
The news came despite the fact that Hong Kong has recorded no local infections since August 17.
The previous editions of the music festival in 2019 and 2020 have been canceled due to the city’s protest and the pandemic.
