Civic organizations take to the streets to support district governance reforms
Civic organizations have taken to the streets in various areas across the city to show their support for the Government's proposals on enhancing governance at the district level.
These organizations have set up street booths to promote the proposals and collect signatures from the public.
Chief Executive John Lee has visited some of these booths to show his support and stated that the proposals will enable the Government to plan and promote district services more effectively, which is advantageous to society.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan also visited a booth and noted that the proposals allow the district governance structure to return to the principles stipulated in the Basic Law.
At other booths, Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing, Secretary for Home & Youth Affairs Alice Mak, Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong, and Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang appealed to the public to fully support the proposals.
Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan explained the content of the proposals at a street booth and stated that residents are looking forward to the return of rationality in the new term of the District Councils, which would reflect their opinions on district management.
The proposals have been uploaded to the Home Affairs Department’s website, and members of the public can submit their views by May 16. This initiative by the Government and civic organizations shows a positive and optimistic step towards enhancing governance and promoting the well-being of society.
