Citybus goes full on for part-timers
Half-day Citybus drivers can enjoy the same hourly rate of HK$125 and other benefits enjoyed by full-time drivers as the bus giant yesterday announced a new contract aimed at "slashers," or people who have one or more part-time jobs, and homemakers.
They can earn up to HK$16,000 a month, with all the benefits of full-timers, including annual leave, travel passes for dependants, 24 weeks' maternity leave and two weeks paid paternity leave.
They are only required to work during morning or evening peak hours Mondays to Fridays except public holidays, or no more than six hours a day.
They can sign in and out at garages, depots or other bus parking locations in Tuen Mun, Tseung Kwan O, west Kowloon or Hong Kong Island.
New half-day captains get a HK$6,000 sign-on bonus and a monthly salary of up to HK$16,000.
General manager Roger Ma said: "Our new package can bring job stability and a guaranteed income stream to slashers, while they spend the rest of the day establishing a work-life balance and on their significant life goals and dreams. Homemakers can rejoin the workforce in their free time whilst earning a lucrative income and having the opportunity to meet new customers everyday."
Citybus and New World First Bus announced on Thursday a 4.5 percent pay hike for bus captains and other frontline workers starting next month. That would mean an extra HK$1,170 for drivers on HK$26,000 a month.
The two companies - subsidiaries of Bravo Transport Services - will merge after their franchises expire next year.
The new franchise, to be named Citybus Ltd, will run from July until 2033.
A recruitment push will begin on September 18 at Tiu Keng Leng station bus terminus, from 10am to 4pm, with the firms targeting 100 half-day drivers.
In Kowloon, the Salvation Army will hold a recruitment day at Kowloon City Plaza from 11am to 5pm on September 22. Another event will be held from 10am to 4pm on October 9 at the Dragon Center bus terminus.
In Tuen Mun, prospective drivers can sign up at Tuen Mun station bus terminus from 10am to 4pm on September 27. On October 11, the Labour Department's Tuen Mun job center will hold an event from 9.30 am to 12.30 am.
Bravo Transport Services is planning a recruitment event in Chai Wan and details will be released on its website soon.
Those aged 21 or above who possess a bus driving license, or have had a driving license for at least one year, are eligible to apply. Candidates can also submit their application on Bravo's website.
