Chris Tang slams cold-hearted online comments on dead police
“When has Hong Kong become such a cold-hearted place?” Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung asked as he shed a few tears when slamming online comments on the late marine police Lam Yuen-yee.
Speaking on a radio program on Saturday, Tang said he is furious when hearing songs created by netizens to mock the death of senior inspector Lam, who lost her life when chasing smugglers in sea last Saturday.
He also slammed people should not promote their propaganda via this incident and such behavior should be condemned by all sectors of the society.
Tang even shed a few tears on the show as he spoke of the incident. “I don't know when has Hong Kong become such a cold-hearted place,” he said.
“Regardless of your political stand, you should not have made fun of people for the tragedy that happens on them,” the security chief added.
Earlier several officers from other disciplinary services were suspended from duty as they were found making online comments mocking the death of Lam as well. On that Tang said he feels sorry and angry at the same time.
“If you are member of the disciplinary services, you really should stand in the shoes of your colleagues. We all face danger when carrying out our duties during law enforcement operation. How could you treat this incident with such an attitude,” Tang said.
“I doubt if these members of the disciplinary services are even willing to serve the public. We are conducing investigation to look into the matter,” he added.
