Now the Olympics are over and Hong Kong athletes are home stand by for a surge of deserved backslapping but also leaps and lunges for reflected glory by people wanting to advance themselves and their businesses or causes on the backs of the team and the six medals.
Ocean Park's publicity crew scored solidly by linking the Olympians with a romp of otters arrived recently at Aberdeen.
Here's the park's pitch on
Facebook: "The Tokyo Olympics has finally ended! Congratulations to all the winning athletes, and we thank every Hong Kong athlete for your impressive performances during the Games.
"We are all so proud of you, including our Asian small-clawed otter pups in the park! They want to express their gratitude to our Hong Kong athletes through the Olympics symbol."
And so we gaze upon a photograph of five sleeping otter pups with bodies bent to form the Olympics rings.
Aside from that cuddly contrivance the park looks forward to cheering our athletes in upcoming competitions.
We'll give that one 8 points out of 10.
