A taxi crashed into the roll-up shutters of a supermarket in Tai Po, fueling police suspicions of po`ssible gang activity after a similar incident at its Sheung Shui outlet on Friday.
A passer-by reported the surreal finding at 3 am yesterday in Tung Sau Square.
The driver had fled before officers arrived. The case is listed as criminal damage and is being followed up by the Tai Po regional anti-triad unit.
The branch, a major one for the small supermarket chain, is understood to have been open for over a year.
An employee said the outlet was daubed in paint two months ago. Black and red paint stains were seen on the shutters and signboard.
In the Friday incident, the taxi's owner, who came to fetch it back after being notified by officers, said it was stolen the night before.
The Sheung Shui branch also had its shutters and signboard splashed with red paint twice in the two months it had been in operation.
