Without giving away the locality, the notice in a building lobby read: "Dear home owners, if you are making noises such as sex moans after 11pm or in the early morning, please close your windows and doors to avoid disturbing other people's sleep. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Although there was no clue to where the notice was posted, it caused an interested stir and drew remarks about how sounds from bedrooms -- or from springy sofas or wherever -- can reach outside.

And one person suggested that anyone disturbed can simply knock on the door of a flat to tell the occupants to quieten down -- whatever their game.
