It's Chinese tradition to burn paper offerings to the dead on Ching Ming Festival, and paper smartphones have been a popular item in recent years.
A shop takes it to heart to make paper phones up to date following the pandemic.
A netizen posted on
Facebook a very realistic paper cell phone wrapped in a golden box, whereas its screen shows the interface of the LeaveHomeSafe app.
“LeaveHomeSafe even after death", he wrote in the caption, without mentioning where the paper cell phone is sold and how much it costs.
The post soon went viral online, drawing serious comments like “the deceased don't need it" and more hilarious ones: "A fine of $5,000 in hell money is not a big deal".
One netizen tried to illustrate how LeaveHomeSafe can work six feet under.
"The first checkpoint of LeaveHomeSafe should be Bridge of Forgetfulness. The Meng Po soup should be takeaway,” he wrote.
In Chinese folklore, before ghosts go on the Bridge of Forgetfulness, they are supposed to drink the Meng Po soup which can make them forget about their past lives.
“Hope they don't get any risk notifications, or they have to come back and queue for tests," another joked.
Some questioned it don't make sense for people to burn a paper offering that would add to their beloved's burden.
"How would you feel if someone burnt this to you after you passed away?" A netizen asked.
