Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, along with a delegation of government officvials and lawmakers visited a sewage treatment plant in Guangzhou on Monday - the last day of their four-day visit to the Greater Bay Area.
The delegation - previously split into two groups to make separate stops in Dongguan and Foshan met in Guangzhou today.
They were briefed about the operation of the various facilities at the Lijiao Wastewater Treatment Plant, which are placed underground with an average depth of 17 meters, and operate in an enclosed way to reduce the impact of odour and noise.
The delegation will then meet with Guangdong officials in the afternoon, before returning to the SAR via high-speed rail.
Executive Council convenor and lawmaker Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee said she was impressed by the technological advancement in the various GBA cities when asked about her takeaways from the four-day trip.
“The enterprises in mainland China could move up the technology ladder quickly because of the scale of a massive market and they made enough profit to do more R&D,” she said, adding that Hong Kong has to partner with the mainland to jumpstart its tech development.
