Car chase on Tsing Kwai Highway leads police to bust drug den in Mong Kok hotel
A 44-year-old driver on drugs was arrested by police on Tsing Kwai Highway Tuesday after officers found his registration had expired for more than six months. He was later escorted to a hotel room in Mong Kok, where two others were found possessing cocaine.
Cops on patrol first encountered and attempted to intercept the seven-seater at around 10.50am today, but the driver sped up to lose the police on Tsing Kwai Highway.
The vehicle, which ran into other driving lanes multiple times and almost crashed into the police vehicles, was at last stopped at the exit of Cheung Tsing Tunnel.
Officers then ordered the driver to take a rapid saliva drug test as the driver appeared intoxicated and found the driver was on ketamine. Cops also discovered his driving license had been suspended.
The driver was arrested for driving without a valid license, driving when the license is suspended, driving without third-party insurance, dangerous driving, and drug driving. Police also found the driver to be a wanted man for he had yet to settle traffic fine tickets issued before.
Police seized a hotel room card from the driver and further escorted him to a hotel on Soy Street in Mong Kok.
A man and a woman walking out of the driver’s room were intercepted. The 53-year-old man was arrested after cops found a small amount of suspected cocaine in his sock; the police also seized some drugs in small bags and tools for drug consumption from the 32-year-old woman.
Police believed the suspects rented the room for them to use drugs after the preliminary investigations.
It was understood that the three people were friends and the hotel room was only rented for two days.
