Cabbie, 75, arrested after hitting elderly couple in Tsing Yi
A 75-year-old taxi driver was arrested after he hit an elderly couple when driving down the slopy Chung Mei Road in Tsing Yi with passengers on board on Saturday morning.
Police received a report at 6.50am this morning, saying that the taxi had been traveling down Chung Mei Road near Sheung Ko Tan Street when it hit two elderly persons crossing the road, allegedly because the driver didn't apply the brakes in time.
The incident occurred at the pedestrian island on the road, where a pool of blood and items like shoes and a watch could be seen nearby.
The 88-year-old man sustained injuries to his hands and feet and was in a conscious state. On the other hand, the 81-year-old woman, in a coma, suffered injuries to her head and waist. The two were admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital.
After investigation, the driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing grevious bodily harm.
