Burglar jailed nine years for sex assault on girl, 12
A 49-year-old jobless man was sentenced to nine years in prison by High Court deputy judge Brian Keith yesterday for burglary and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 2021.
That was after they pretended to be conducting a questionnaire and persuaded the victim to allow him and his female accomplice to enter the flat, where they stole family property and money and he sexually assaulted the girl.
Ken Wong Ka-yip pleaded guilty to indecent assault, indecency with a child under 16 and producing child pornography.
Accomplice Winnie Wong Wun-sing, 40, was jailed for 2-1/2 years for burglary and possession of possession of 0.65 grams of heroin and 0.82 grams of other dangerous drugs.
The pair also admitted stealing a mobile and around HK$1,150 in cash.
It was in April 2021 that they pretended to be conducting a questionnaire and talked their way past the girl into the flat.
Winnie Wong's lawyer said her client did not know Ken Wong would sexually assault the girl but told him not to touch the girl.
Her lawyer also pleaded for a lighter sentence as Winnie Wong assisted police to arrest Ken Wong.
Ken Wong denied he had pedophilia, saying that he had taken methamphetamine beforehand which made him irrational.
Judge Keith said he regarded Ken Wong's interest toward the young girl as shameful and said she had been harmed permanently.
She had been alone at home in a public housing estate in April 2021 when the two rang the doorbell and asked her to help them with a survey. Then they told the girl she would in trouble for having a dog in a public housing flat and entered the home.
Winnie Wong stole HK$1,000 in cash, 130 yuan (HK$148) and the girl's mobile phone then left when Ken Wong started assaulting the girl. The court heard he forced her to undress and groped her private parts for more than 10 minutes.
The girl reported to the police after the two left.
Police found three videos with clips of more than five minutes in Ken Wong's phone recording his attack on the girl.
His browsing history and notes in his phone showed an inclination to indecent assault, and he sold indecent video clips.
