(Budget 2023-24) New committee to drive HK into an international green technology and finance center
Finance chief Paul Chan said will the government will set up a Green Technology and Finance Development Committee to develop Hong Kong into an international green technology and finance center.
Chan said the committee will invite industry representatives from green technology, green finance, and green standard certification to assist in the formulation of an action agenda.
The government will also organize an International GreenTech Week at the end of this year to pool together representatives, enterprises and investors from the green technology industries around the world, he added.
The finance chief also said Hong Kong must actively seize the opportunities brought by China's dual carbon strategies at the right time, thus, leveraging the city’s strengths under "One Country, Two Systems" and as an international financial center to accelerate the development of Hong Kong into an international center for green technology and finance.
He said authorities will push forward the plan in five directions, including building a green technology ecosystem, facilitating green finance application and innovation, devoting resources to green certification and alignment with international standards, talent training, and enhancing the exchange and cooperation with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and international markets.
