British lawyer Tim Owen arrives in Hong Kong for a case unrelated to Jimmy Lai
British lawyer Tim Owen KC, mired in controversy for his role as defense counsel for jailed media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, has arrived in Hong Kong for a separate court case.
It was understood that Owen was spotted sitting on a bench at the Statue Square opposite the Court of Final Appeal on Wednesday before the court building opened its doors.
In the afternoon, Owen set foot in the court building to handle the appeal application related to a fee dispute of a dairy company.
The entry visa was granted to Owen by the Immigration Department earlier this month, sources said, and Owen has also been granted a visa for another hearing scheduled in May.
Yet, there isn't any progress as to whether Owen can defend Lai in the national security trial in September after the government's appeal to the Court of Final Appeal was rejected and the Standing Committee of National People's Congress interpreted the law for the sixth time last month (Dec).
