Bring at least 3 liters of water for hiking in hot weather, Fire Services Department urges

The Fire Services Department called on people to bring at least 3 liters of water when hiking in hot weather, and drink every 15 to 20 minutes to prevent heatstroke.
The call on Friday came as authorities announced, as of last weekend, the number of fatalities related to hiking this year has risen over the 14 deaths from last year.

The Government Flying Service said they have handled a total of 20 calls for help related to heatstroke in the past three months when the very hot weather warning signal was in force, of which six of them were serious cases.

A spokesman of the Fire Services Department said in order to prevent heatstroke, citizens should bring at least 3 liters of water when hiking, and consume around 100 to 200ml of water at 15 to 20 minutes intervals.

Meanwhile, a Civil Aid Service spokesman reminded members of the public to not go hiking alone and should well plan their hiking route beforehand.
