Booking for rooms at Penny's Bay quarantine center will be suspended starting the coming Sunday for government to revise procedures and to handle submitted applications.
The Labour and Welfare Bureau made the announcement on
Facebook tonight. It said the original arrangement saw citizens can reserve rooms for foreign domestic helpers to undergo quarantine from September 20 to October 19, as the registration opened on Tuesday.
However all rooms offered in the two phases were sweep by desperate employers and agencies within minutes.
Starting today, the system will reopen and offer a daily quota of 50 rooms each day. Yet, after this morning many employers reflected that they wish not to visit the online system everyday to see if there is any room left.
The Bureau then decided to suspend the system starting the coming Sunday, for the government to revise relevant procedures and handle the submitted applications. The government will announce further details in due course, it said.
