Bokhary's niece gets to go home after being released on bail
Amina Bokhary, the niece of court of final appeal non-permanent judge Kemal Bokhary, has been released on bail for HK$100,000 after she was charged with damaging two cars by tossing domestic helper's personal belongings off her Wan Chai home.
Amina, 46, needed not to enter a plea yet as she appeared before principal magistrate Ivy Chui Yee-mei in Eastern Courts on Friday morning.
Amina must not leave Hong Kong and is barred from contacting witnesses summoned by the prosecution. She must also report to a police station twice a week.
She faces two counts of criminal damage and the hearing has been adjourned to February 20 next year by judge Chui, awaiting the prosecutors to further seek legal advice.
Chui granted Amina's bail application today after retrieving the psychiatrist's report, which confirmed the defendant's stable mental state.
Amina was arrested by police last Thursday (Dec 15) and was sent to Siu Lam Psychiatric Center after appearing in the Eastern Courts the next day.
She was set to file her bail application to the High Court yesterday (Thu) but arrived in the courtroom alone without having any lawyer. She then retracted her application, apologized to the court and remained remanded in custody.
Chui then warned Amina that her bail will be revoked immediately if she violates any of the conditions listed.
