After being spotted shopping in two wet markets, former Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor reappeared at a farewell dinner Thursday night where she stressed the importance of teenagers and construction safety.
The banquet was staged by the Hong Kong Construction Association to thank Lam for her services in the past years. Two former principal officials in Lam's cabinet – Frank Chan Fan and Alfred Sit Wing-hang – were at the dinner party as well.
According to guests at the banquet, Lam gave a toast and said teenagers are very important to the city, calling on the construction sector to guide them well.
She added there is no room for compromising when it comes to safety, probably because of recent industrial incidents.
She also gave out name cards with the title of “Former Chief Executive” on it, and welcomed guests to visit her office in Admiralty to exchange ideas.
There were a handful of farewell dinners scheduled for Lam before she stepped down in June, but they were all canceled because of the pandemic.
After she left her position as the city's leader, she was spotted by citizens shopping in two wet markets in Wan Chai and Fanling, surrounded by body guards.
