Beauty parlour director arrested for failing to refund HK$1.1m after closed down
Customs arrested a 59-year-old beauty parlour director suspected of wrongly accepting payment when selling beauty services, which violated the Trade Descriptions Ordinance.
The beauty parlour, which was located in Sai Kung, has been in operation for more than 20 years and abruptly closed in September this year.
The parlour failed to return a total of HK$1.1 million of prepaid beauty services fees that customers had purchased, leading to at least 52 complaints reported to Customs.
Customs officers arrested the female director of the parlour today.
An investigation is ongoing, and the arrestee has been released on bail pending further investigation.
She may face a maximum penalty of HK$500,000 in fine and five years imprisonment if convicted.
