Average waiting time for public housing down to 5.3 years
The Housing Authority said on Thursday that the average wait for a public housing flat as of the end of March had been shortened from 5.5 to 5.3 years.
The average waiting time for elderly individual applicants, meanwhile, remained unchanged at 3.9 years.
The Housing Authority explained that the reason for the improved wait time is mainly due to the availability of a substantial number of flats for allocation in the past few quarters.
“After absorbing the public rental housing demand of general applicants who have waited for a relatively longer time, the waiting time of general applicants who were housed in the first quarter of 2023 was comparatively shorter. As a result, the overall average waiting time has been slightly shortened,” it noted.
As of end-March 2023, there were about 133,200 general applications for public rental housing, and about 97,100 non-elderly one-person applications under the Quota and Points System.
