Avalon SteriTech, SoftBank Robotics launch joint venture over smart cleaning

Avalon SteriTech and SoftBank Robotics Group have announced a joint venture to launch its inaugural product - Whiz Gambit, a robotic solution focusing on the development of innovative products and technologies that aim to benefit public health and wellbeing.
The robotic solution, where “Whiz” is an AI cleaning robot of SoftBank Robotics and “Gambit” is Avalon’s disinfection unit dedicated for “Whiz”, is established to take cleaning and bio-decontamination beyond what is visible as a way to raise public confidence and achieve a greater sense of public and personal safety in communities worldwide, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a newly established joint venture, Avalon Robotics will play a key role in global product planning, research and development, business development, marketing, sales and distribution of Whiz Gambit and other technologies.

“We believe Whiz Gambit is a reliable solution to ease consumer health and safety concerns, sparking a new era of ‘Smart Cleaning’ and enable businesses and public sectors to navigate this challenging moment,” said Lewis Ho, CEO of Avalon SteriTech.

Meanwhile, Kenichi Yoshida, Chief Business Officer of SoftBank Robotics Corp, said the company had been reviewing many disinfectant formats to enhance Whiz with an add-on function to deliver thorough floor care cleaning and achieve disinfection efficacy.

“Avalon SteriTech is able to fulfill the high environmental regulatory standards after our extensive collaborative research work with them. We believe this partnership with Avalon SteriTech will continue to bring us from strength to strength as we endeavor to pursue and design new products and robotic solutions to address the new public health requirements,” Yoshida added.

The agreement will be operationally managed by Avalon, which will become SBRG’s first and only global disinfection sprayer partner. It will also pave the way for future collaborations and technologies as both companies look towards new potential markets in Hong Kong and globally.
