Authority warns of fraudulent website related to Bank of China
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority advised the public to be wary of a fraudulent website that purported to be Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited's website.
According to the press release issued by BOCHK, the fraudulent website (hxxps://www[.]bochkuk[.]com/) has a login page which displays the Bank's general enquiry hotline and branch address, intending to steal customers' data, such as internet banking number and password.
BOCHK declares that it has no connection with the fraudulent website. Meanwhile, the case has been reported to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the police.
The HKMA wishes to remind the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks which direct them to the banks' websites to carry out transactions. They will not ask customers for sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or one-time password, by phone, email or SMS.
Anyone who has provided personal information or has conducted any financial transactions through the website concerned should contact the bank immediately, and report the matter to the police by contacting the Crime Wing Information Centre at 2860 5012.
