Austin Road construction site workers protest over HK$850,000 in unpaid wages
Around 10 construction workers on Tuesday morning held banners at the entrance of a construction site on Austin Road to protest their employers’ failure to pay wages owed to them.
The protest began at 8am at the site next to the Xiqu Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, with the workers displaying a banner that reads “all sweat, no pay.”
The wages in question were said to total up to HK$850,000, involving a total of 17 workers.
The workers were also denied entry to the site this morning and could not retrieve their personal items stored inside their lockers.
A representative of the workers named Choi said they would consider escalating their actions should their employers continue to deny paying their wages.
