At least 18 children abused by children care center staffers
It was understood that at least 18 children were abused by three staffers at a children care center in Mong Kok as the incident was unmasked by media reports on Friday.
The three female staffers of Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children, two aged 23 and one 44, were arrested for children abuse earlier on Wednesday night.
Reports originally mentioned that there were seven children involved in the incident, but it was understood that further police investigation found that the number drastically increased from seven to 18.
On Friday evening, a great number of kids, accompanied by staffers of the Children's Residential Home, boarded taxis and left the care home for unknown reason.
According to police, the two staffers, aged 23 and 44, were charged with ill-treatment or neglect of a child or young person in their charge on Saturday. The case will be mentioned in Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (Sunday) morning.
The remaining 23-year-old arrestee was released on bail on the other hand. She must report to police in late-January.
In response to media inquiries, the Social Welfare Department said five children aged two to three involved have the Director of Social Welfare as their legal guardian. The case was reported to the Department on Tuesday, who immediately requested the organization to report to police.
The children have been sent to hospital while the case was also reported to their parents and legal guardians.
