Artiste Myolie Wu accused of "separatism” by Mainland netizens
Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu Hang-yee was accused of “separatism” by Mainland netizens after they caught her saying she “has been working in China” on Instagram.
Wu, who has been working on the Mainland in the recent years, saw her husband Philip Lee Shing-tak attacked online as people said he sponges off Wu while Wu has been working hard.
Wu then published a post on Instagram to defend Lee, saying that he is willing spend more time with the kids, which allows her to work outside Hong Kong without any worries.
However, a sentence in her post drew fire from the Mainland netizens. Wu said “The reason why he spends more time with the kids is because he knows I have been working in China...”
Mainland netizens slammed her for using the word "China" in the sentence, accusing her of “Hong Kong Independence” for separating Hong Kong and China.
One said “Get out of this country! I thought you take proud in your identity as a Chinese national. It seems I have been overthinking.”
Another asked Wu “Why did you write 'working in China' instead of '[working in] Mainland? Do you think that 'HK is HK but China is China?'”
Others also warned her to pay attention to her word choices.
These sensitive comments triggered Wu to delete the post on Instagram immediately.
