Aramco Team Series to be held at Fanling golf course in October
A women's golf tournament sponsored by Saudi Arabia's state-run oil giant Aramco is set to take place at Hong Kong's Fanling golf course in October, offering up to US$5 million (~HK$39.2 million) in prize fund.
A great number of golf players and tourists can be expected as it will be the first time such a grand Middle East golf tournament is held in Hong Kong.
The Aramco Team Series is the world's largest woman team competition and there are four other tournaments in Singapore, Florida in the U.S., London in the U.K., and the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Each of the 36 teams in the tournament is comprised of three professionals and one amateur, making it the best stage for players to compete against other world-class players and up their game into the professional golf community.
Andy Kwok Wing-leung, captain of Hong Kong Golf Club's general committee, said it is an honor to cooperate with Aramco and to introduce a Middle East golf tournament into Hong Kong for the first time.
The tournament taking place at the Fanling golf course also reflects that the facilities there have reached international standards, Kwok added.
Aramco is one of the biggest energy companies on the planet which owns the world's largest onshore and offshore oil field.
Aramco, with an estimated market value of HK$16.5 trillion as of October, may become Hong Kong's latest trade and investment partner as chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu said on Sunday that he would pay the oil giant a visit and encourage it to list in the SAR.
