Application for HK$2 fare Octopus card begins tomorrow
Citizens aged 64 can apply for their personal Octopus card -- JoyYou Card -- tomorrow, as the government is extending the HK$2 fare scheme to those between 60 and 64 from February next year.
The eligible age for the scheme that allows people to enjoy HK$2 per trip on public transports will be lowered from 65 to 60.
Hong Kong residents aged 60 to 64 will have to apply for the JoyYou card to be eligible for the scheme.
People who were born in 1957 can register for the card starting from tomorrow to August 31, while the following months will each be dedicated to applications for those born in 1958 to 1961 respectively.
From January 1 next year, applications will be open to all citizens who are turning 60 within 3 months from the date of application.
Secretary for Labour and Welfare Law Chi-kwong encouraged citizens to register on the Octopus mobile application, saying it only required a few clicks and the cards would be mailed to their homes after four weeks.
