The catering industry has raised concern about the latest color-coded vaccine pass arrangement, in which restaurant staffers could easily overlook diners’ vaccine pass and let in amber code bearers.
Authority previously announced an easing of quarantine measures for inbound travelers. Those undergoing a four-day medical surveillance after completing their three-day quarantine will be issued a amber code, allowing them to go outdoors but restricting them from premises including restaurants and bars.
Authorities said earlier that catering premises’
vaccine pass scanners will be updated gradually within a two-week transition period to bar amber code bearers from entering. In the meantime, restaurant staffers will have to inspect diner’s
vaccine pass manually.
Simon Wong Ka-wo, President of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants & Related Trades, said restaurants were at risk of prosecution for diners who were found not using the LeaveHomeSafe app or completing the requirements of the
vaccine pass.
He called on the government to provide more guidelines for the industry to cope with the extra workload.
