A survey by travel booking platform Expedia found that nearly 80 percent of respondents in Hong Kong intended to travel abroad between June and September, with Tokyo topping their list of destinations.
Among them, 51 percent said they had already booked air tickets or accommodation.
In addition, 28 percent of the respondents said they had planned to travel during this period.
Overall, 89 percent of Hong Kong respondents said they were "very interested" or "interested" in traveling overseas in the coming months.
According to the survey, 48 percent said they feel safer and more confident traveling overseas. Vaccination, increasingly stable supply of flights and accommodation, and relaxation of entry requirements have eased their worries about traveling abroad.
Some 26 percent said they were prepared to spend more than HK$15,000 per person for a summer trip.
At the same time, Tokyo, Taipei, Paris, Osaka, and Hokkaido were the five most popular destinations, with Tokyo topping the list. It has been chosen as the top city for Hong Kong people to visit, both this summer and in the future, when all
Covid-related travel restrictions are lifted.
