The move came as the joint committee considered the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in younger populations might provide transient additional protection against infection and symptomatic diseases.
Uninfected individuals aged 18 to 59 years who are at higher risk of infection or with personal needs - such as studying abroad, or to fulfill overseas travel requirements - may choose to receive a fourth dose of the vaccine at least six months from the third dose.
Such an approach would also be applied to recovered adults in the same age group, the joint committee noted.
The city’s health experts had last month recommended the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine for individuals aged 60 years or above as this group forms the majority of local fatal cases in the fifth wave of the city’s Covid outbreak.
