Admiralty Station design for cross-harbor extension unveiled
The MTR Corporation on Wednesday unveiled the design of the new extension of Admiralty Station, which will open upon the commissioning of the East Rail Line cross-harbor section.
The railway company debuted a dedicated website today introducing the East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension and the three stations along the extended section.
According to the website, Admiralty Station - a mega four-line interchange station, will be the new terminal station of East Rail Line, allowing passengers arriving at this station to change to other lines easily without exiting the paid area.
The website displayed a photomontage of the design of the new extension of Admiralty Station, including a modified entrance at Rodney Street.
The photomontage showed a unique multi-level atrium design, with a large skylight directing natural light into the station to provide passengers a more comfortable traveling environment.
As for the new Exhibition Centre Station adjacent to Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at Wan Chai North, the three-level underground station will comprise a station concourse and two platform levels.
The website wrote that its two entrances are located at ground level connecting to the nearby commercial buildings, including Great Eagle Centre and Harbour Centre, along with lifts connecting with the Wan Chai footbridge network.
Meanwhile, a new East Rail Line platform underneath the Tuen Ma Line platform at Hung Hom station will be used when the East Rail Line cross-harbor extension commences operation.
It was said that the new platform will provide a more comfortable traveling environment, with passengers no longer needing to walk up to the concourse when interchanging between the two lines.
The website also provided updates on the work progress of different stations.
It wrote that architectural works and finishes at the extended Admiralty Station are substantially complete while relevant works at the Exhibition Centre Station are progressing at full steam.
It also said as the extension is coming to an essential stage in the work towards its commissioning, the East Rail Line cross-harbor extension is now targeted to commence passenger service in June-July next year.
