Actor Jimmy Wong among four injured as Audi crashes into two taxis in Cross-Harbour Tunnel
A 28-year-old man was arrested for drunk driving after crashing his Audi into two taxis in the Cross-Habour Tunnel early on Thursday. Four people were injured, including veteran actor Jimmy Wa-wo, who was working a night taxi shift at the time.
The incident occurred around 3 am when the Audi entered the tunnel heading towards Hong Kong Island.
The car went out of control near the entrance, crashed into the curb by the right, and rebounded to collide with a taxi traveling towards Kowloon in the opposite driving lane.
The collision with the taxi also sent the Audi mid-air as the Audi landed and hit a second taxi behind. The Audi, tipped over, finally stopped in the middle of two driving lanes.
The driver of the Audi, named So, crawled out of the vehicle on his own. He had his fingers injured and started vomiting.
The 71-year-old driver of the first taxi, Au, sustained injuries to his hands and knees. He and three passengers onboard refused to be sent to the hospital.
In the second taxi, Wong sustained an injury to his chest, while the 26-year-old non-Chinese passenger had his forehead hurt. Only Wong was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
It was also the second time Wong was caught up in a traffic incident while working a taxi night shift. In early February, his taxi was involved in a four-car pile-up in Kwun Tong caused by a runaway BMW. Luckily, he wasn’t on board at that time.
As for the Audi driver, he failed the alcohol breath test and was arrested for drunk driving.
