A&E patients face 3-hour wait times amid rise in demand during the Easter holiday
Multiple emergency units in hospitals saw waiting times exceeding three hours as most of the private clinics were closed during the Easter Holidays, leading to more patients heading to government hospitals.
According to statistics on the Hospital Authority webpage, seven public hospitals today have recorded more than three hours of waiting time in the Accident and Emergency Services Department, with Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital having the longest waiting time, at 7 hours.
The situation in Queen Mary Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital is comparatively better, but the patients still have to wait more than 2 hours.
Some patients on Saturday stated that they have waited over six hours for their turn and only chose to come to the government hospitals due to the Easter Holidays.
They have also commented on the lack of staffing in government hospitals.
The Hospital Authority said it has set a diversion system separating patients into five levels. Patients classified as critical will not have to wait and will be treated immediately by medical staff.
As for sub-urgent and non-emergency patients, the waiting time may be relatively long.
HA suggested patients with mild symptoms go to private or general outpatient clinics for quicker treatment.
