5-year-old boy dressed up as Thor finishes his seventh heart surgery
Kansas, a 5-year-old boy with congenital heart disease, has undergone cardiac catheterization and his artificial heart valve is expected to last three to five years.
In September last year, Kansas underwent his sixth major surgery where he received a new pacemaker as well as reconstructed a single-ventricular circulatory system.
Kansas went to the hospital on Monday dressed as Thor and was ready to “go to war” - to face the surgery - and wasn’t afraid of it.
His mom posted on social media stating that there is nothing in this operation that Kansas is unfamiliar with and he loves to imitate Dr. Strange’s actions when times are tough.
In the video posted online, Kansas was happy wearing his Thor helmet, while holding onto his own luggage in one hand and carrying a stuffed panda toy from the movie “Turning Red”.
Kansas’ dad posted on Tuesday afternoon that his son’s mechanical heart valve was going to last three to five years. He pointed out that Kansas’ next major operation would most likely be in three to five years and it is another problem for another day.
Mom explains that Kansas needed this surgery because he had a mechanical heart valve placed in him when he was three and as Kansas is growing up, the artificial valve does not match his needs anymore.
She added that this is the first time Kansas’ dad went into the operation room with Kansas. Kansas was well behaved and didn’t cry at all. She says its daddy’s strength allows Kansas to feel safe and easy when he is with him.
